This tobacco variety was re-discovered on a Kona farm when the ground was tilled and dormant seeds germinated. It probably derives from one of the failed tobacco farming ventures that existed in Hawaii in the early part of the 20th century. 'Kona Strain' is a vigorous plant that produces large leaves suitable for cigar wrappers or other smoking blends. It also makes a great all natural pesticide. The large plants can reach over 6 feet tall and produce a bounty of pink flowers that are attractive to bees and other pollinators.
