Roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa) is a large, bushy plant grown for its edible, tangy-red, fleshy calyces used to make jams, teas, and juices, similar to cranberries. The plant is visually striking with pale pink flowers, red stems and leaf veins. It thrives in hot and subtropical climates and requires a long, sunny growing season. We recommend starting transplants 4-6 weeks before field planting in spring. Space plants 3 to 4 feet apart and for best results provide a trellis or some sort of support as they are prone to lodging in storms.
