Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis) Seeds
Scarify seeds and sow in individual plugs 1/8 deep or less. Germination takes up to two weeks. Pot up as needed or transplant 2 feet apart into deep, rich soil in full sun or partial shade. Plants prefer moist soil and regular watering. With the right care, it is a long lived perennial growing up to five feet tall.
The whole plant is edible. The root is very nutritious, and makes a very gut soothing cold infusion or tea. The leaves and petals can be used in herbal tea blends and in salads, are mild in flavor and are supportive to the nervous system and digestion. Roots may be harvested after 2-3 years, saving some to replant.
